Dozen Photo Challenge - Part One

Writer's picture: Rachel KramsRachel Krams

For this assignment, this was the best photo I took. I think this is the best photo I've taken because in this photo, I was able to capture my brother and my cousin preparing for a ski run. From my low angle, I could capture the height of the mountains and how tall we were, in addition to also capturing the start of the run, and the scenes I experienced before skiing down. The most challenging aspect of this picture was actually taking the photo. At such a high altitude in Colorado with numb hands, I was worried about falling while also staying warm. Keeping a low angle on a downhill slope was hard, and using the sun's direction to capture the correct shadows was also difficult. Once I sat comfortably, I was able to get a better angle. In the future, I plan to ski down to a lower level and take the photo from there rather than bending over and trying to stay low with my body, rather than just relocating to a different location for the photo.

Ethically Evaluative By: Linh Yoshimura

I selected this photo as an Ethically Evaluative photograph because this image captures an elderly woman injured by a U.S.-Vietnamese air strike on a being carried to be taken care of. This photo fits this category because it demonstrates a sense of patriotism and pride towards helping another individual in need of support or care.

Theoretical By: Remedios Varo

Because this piece features elements of conceptual art, I find that it falls under the Theoretical category of art. It is not a traditional photo, it includes elements of photography mixed with modern creativity and alterations that allow for us to view this piece theoretically.
